About Manu Yam

Squash coach Manu Yam started playing the sport at the age of 8 through the guidance of his father. At 14, he was already his native Philippines' #1 junior player and a member of the national squad. At 17, he became the national champion and held the title for 10 years until settling down to start a family and attend to the family business. It was also at this stage that Manu started assisting the Philippine National Team.

Prior to his retirement from active competition, Manu has represented the Philippines in several international competitions and have won a couple of junior and men's titles in the process.

Migrating to New Zealand in 2006, Manu pursued a Level 2 Certification from Squash Auckland after being Belmont Park Racquets  Club's head coach wherein he ran successful programmes for the junior and senior members.

His passion and dedication to coaching earned him the Squash New Zealand Coach of the Year for 2009. He was previously awarded Auckland 2008 Coach of the Year. This has paved the way for his involvement in the training of the junior development squad at the National Training Centre.

Aside from coaching duties at Belmont Park Racquets Club, he is also currently running several programmes for juniors and seniors at the Browns Bay Racquets Club. Manu is also the coach of Westlake Boys High School Premiere Squash team.
